Biografía de Abdulrazak Gurnah, ganador del Nobel de Literatura

La siguiente biografía ha sido realizada por los alumnos de 2º ESO en clase de Inglés con su profesor Jerónimo Primo.  Han investigado sobre su vida y su obra para conocer a este tanzano que obtiene la distinción por una obra que trata "los efectos del colonialismo y el destino del refugiado"

ABDULRAKAZ GURNAH BIOGRAFÍA

 Nació el 20 de diciembre de 1948 en Zanzíbar, Tanzania. A los dieciocho años, abandonó su país de origen por culpa de un régimen político. Empezó a estudiar en una universidad de Nigeria en 1980; se fue a una universidad de Reino Unido en la que ganó su doctorado en 1982. Fue profesor de literatura inglesa hasta que se jubiló. Creó novelas y cuentos desde los veintiún años, todos en inglés, aun siendo africano. Se inspiró de la poesía árabe y persa, también del Corán. Sus obras tratan principalmente sobre sujetos residentes de la costa este africana. Sus primeras tres obras fueron Memory of Departure, Pilgrims Way y Dottie. El 7 de octubre de 2021 recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura «por su penetración intransigente y compasiva de los efectos del colonialismo y el destino del refugiado en el abismo entre culturas y continentes». Las novelas más famosas son Paradise (1994), nominada en el Booker Prize y en el Whitebread Prize; By the Sea (2001) y Desertion (2005). Otras novelas destacadas son: Afterlives, Gravel Heart, Admiring Silence y The Last Gift. Sólo tres de sus novelas han sido publicadas en español: En la orilla (By the Sea), Paraíso (Paradise) y Precario silencio (Admiring Silence). 

BIOGRAPHY 

Abdulrazak Gurnah was born on 20th December 1948 in Zanzibar,Tanzania. When he was 18 years old, he left his country because of a politcal regimen. He began to study at a university in Nigeria in 1980; he went to a British university and he won a doctorate in 1982. When he was 21 years old, he became an English literature teacher until he retired. He created novels and tales, all in English, even he is African. He was inspired by Arabic and Persian poetry, and also the Koran. His jobs are mainly about people of the African East coast. His first three works were Memory of Departure, Pilgrims Way and Dottie. In 2021 he got the Nobel Prize of Literature "For his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the efects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”. The most famous novels are Paradise (1994), nominated for the Booker Prize and the Whitebread Prize; By the Sea (2001) and Desertion (2005). Other notable novels are: Afterlives, Gravel Heart, Admiring Silence and The Last Gift. Only three of his novels have been published in Spanish: En la orilla (By the Sea), Paraíso (Paradise) and Precario silencio (Admiring Silence).
